Biography

Liz has been song-writing since a tender age. A wordsmith of sorts, Liz's inspirations include The Smiths, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Self Esteem, The Cure, and more; artists who walk the line between catchy melodies and catching feelings.

  • Liz's song-writing and writing experience is extensive: in addition to her personal projects, she writes for a US-based jazz musician (see a review on the Press page), and is continuously writing, pitching, or collaborating with other artists. To date, her portfolio counts more than 150 songs.
  • A consummate performer, Liz draws on her Acting and Musical Theatre experience to present a performance which is really centred around the audience rather than herself, aiming to make a meaningful connection.
  • In addition to Liz's writing, song-writing, singing and acting experience, she is a qualified educator (Singing [Various], Music Theatre [LCM], Acting [LAMDA], plus Creative Writing and English to GCSE level [AQA]).

My Musical Style and Influences

I wear my influences on my over-large sleeves: Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse, Prince, and many more. I feel that my songs visit genres between Rock, Soul, Pop, Blues and Jazz, with the influence of Musical Theatre and vaudeville along with elements of Anti-Folk and Americana. I feel like my voice is a notable asset: if it were a wine, it would be a throaty, rich, and slightly acidic brew. My songs are about life, love, heartbreak, and if there's an edge, I'll teeter on it.

Where I Began

I started performing live at 15. I remember that I wore a tie dye T-Shirt - so not much has changed - and played in a dark, damp tent at a festival in Dorset, on an un-mic'd guitar, with bad hair, to an audience of three. So what was next? Well, the only way was up. Join me on my renewed song-writing and performance journey, working towards living a life founded on music.

Watch my video for 'It's Only Chemistry'

In December 2024, I uploaded a little video for each song from my album, 'Supernatural Hibernation'. I'm particularly proud of this one - sure, I'm no expert, but I thoroughly enjoyed putting this video together from some excellent stock footage supplied by Cottonbros on Pexels (and I donated to them as a thank you - artists have got to support other artists!). Hear all the songs and watch my editing efforts now - and don't forget to Like and Subscribe!

Enjoy some Imperfect Covers

I've been embracing imperfection (or, at least, trying to), and that has involved weekly uploads of so-called 'Imperfect Covers', my attempts to record versions of favourite tunes which I give myself 30 minutes from start to finish to learn. There's so much pleasure to be had in playing these tunes; no doubt I could do them better, but that's beside the point. If nothing else, I'm trying to explore them as a vocalist and performer, finding the passion in the lyrics.

how to hear it
